Dark Karatsu Tea Bowl
This bowl uses the technique called “Hikidashi (pull-out)”. In this technique, iron glazed vessels are pulled out of the ascending kiln with something like an iron rod during firing and cooled down quickly. This process makes them jet black in finish. It is a rare type of ware that often breaks because it is pulled out from a temperature of nearly 1200℃. This is the perfect tea bowl for Matcha (green tea) bowls because it emphasizes the green color of Matcha.
