Powdered Karatsu Flower Vase
These plates are made with the method called Kohiki, which is where a white base is coated with a transparent glaze. On top of that, a pigment that contains iron is used to draw a simple pattern particular to Karatsu ware. It is covered with ashes from the flames of firewood, which it gives a unique tarnished look. Although the plates are the same size, they are all slightly deformed by denting or subtly cutting the rim. Even though they are a set of plates, each of them creates a different and playful atmosphere.
